As a world leading power company, InterGen was established in 1995, headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. InterGen is mainly engaged in development and operation of power plants. At present, InterGen owns 11 power plants, 2 compressor stations and gas pipelines, distributed in three countries, namely the UK, Mexico and Australia. There are 8 gas-fired power stations, 2

coal-fired power plants and 1 wind mill, with total installed capacity of 6,798MW and net equity capacity of 5,163MW.

On April 11, 2011, China Huaneng Group and Guangdong Yudean Group Co., Ltd. announced that Overseas International Industrial Co., Ltd (the joint venture of the two companies) successfully acquired 50% stake of InterGen from India-based GMR Group with a bid of USD 1.232 billion.


Overseas International Industrial Co., Ltd is a joint venture between China Huaneng Group and Guangdong Yudean Group Co., Ltd., in which Huaneng holds 60% stake while Yudean holds 40%. As the purchaser, Overseas International Industrial signed a Purchase Agreement with GMR Group at the end of November 2010.

The Canada-based Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP) holds the other 50% stake of InterGen. OTPP is the largest pension plan in Canada, jointly launched by the Ontario government and Ontario Teachers Federation. As of Dec. 31, 2012, the net assets of OTPP reached CAD129.5 billion, providing pension management for about 303 thousand teachers.
